The island of Rab was originally settled by Illyrians around 350 BC.

Over time the Romans established a presence; Rab became a Roman municipality in the 1st century BC. The Latin name Felix Arba reflects a prosperous past; "Arba" being the old (Illyric) name meaning “dark, lush.”

Around Kampor, discoveries include remnants of a possibly Greek acropolis on the Kastelina promontory, mosaics, coins (bronze, silver, copper), tombs. Some finds are displayed in regional museums.
